 The City of Georgetown is now accepting applications five Electric Lineman positions. This position is responsible for performing unskilled to skilled technical work in the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical systems. Reports to the Utility Line Supervisor.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs unskilled and skilled technical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
Performs construction duties including installing new primary and secondary lines, framing and setting new poles, installing underground lines, setting underground transformers, framing and setting security and street light poles, hanging new transformers and installing metering equipment.
Works on call 24 hours per day as scheduled. Inclement weather and emergencies require additional scheduling.
Maintains assigned vehicles, equipment and tools. Assists in maintaining department inventory records.
Performs all work in compliance with plans, specifications, codes, regulations, department policies and procedures and standards of equality and safety.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including work orders and inventory sheets.
Prepares and/or generates a variety of documents such as inventory sheets and work orders.
Refers to MSDS sheets, safety books, safety manuals and operator/equipment manuals.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as coworkers, the public and other utilities
Utilizes a variety of machinery and/or equipment such as bucket trucks, line trucks, trenchers, fork lifts, hand tools, electrical distribution equipment, etc.


ESSENTIAL SAFETY FUNCTIONS
It is the responsibility of each employee to comply with established policies, procedures and safe work practices. Each employee must follow safety training and instructions provided by their supervisor. Each employee must also properly wear and maintain all personal protective equipment required for their job. Finally, each employee must immediately report any unsafe work practices or unsafe conditions as well as any on-the-job injury or illnesses.


ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assists with maintenance, installation and the removal and storage of holiday decorations.
Assists with basic minor electrical maintenance in City buildings and structures.
Cleans Electric Department such as sweeping, mopping, removing trash and cleaning bathrooms.
Performs other related duties as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Requires a High School diploma supplemented by a minimum of one years' of electric line experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be able to obtain a CDL in six months of employment. If applicant has documented previous experience with electric line work, will consider hiring at higher level line technician position.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of heavy machines and equipment. Must be able to exert force to push, stoop, lift, pull, reach, kneel, climb, crouch, carry or otherwise move objects. Work involves walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift/carry weights of up to 50 to 60 pounds.
