The City of Georgetown is now accepting applications for a Heavy Equipment Operator II for the Sanitation Department. Under general supervision, operates side loaders for Sanitation Collection. Removes yard and other debris from residential areas. Collects and transports yard debris and other materials to the landfill. Keeps streets and right-of-ways clean. Assists coworkers with various duties as required. Reports to the Sanitation Supervisor.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

 

Operates a boom truck to remove yard and other debris from every residence in the City of Georgetown.

 

Operates a backhoe to remove sand material and debris.

 

Operates a leaf truck to remove leaves from residences.

 

Operates a front end loader to remove debris.

 

Serves as the Lead Operator in the field for Sanitation Collection.

 

Works to develop efficient waste collection routes and safe work environments.

 

Operates a boom truck to serve every customer in the City removal of debris or any other material discarded by residents.

 

Operates dump trucks and other equipment such as front end loaders, backhoes, street sweepers and tractors.

 

Reports violations of collection requirements to supervisor.

 

Responds to customer requests and complaints as required.

 

Loads and unloads materials onto vehicles manually.

 

Keeps streets and right-of-ways clean and free of debris.

 

Transports debris to the appropriate location for disposal.

 

Fabricates, install and repairs street signs when needed.

 

Operates specialized heavy equipment without assistance.

 

Assists coworkers with various duties as required.

 

Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations and standards of quality and safety.

 

Maintains and repairs garbage cans.

 

Ensures that all assigned equipment is properly equipped, cleaned and serviced.

 

Performs minor cleaning and maintenance and reports repair needs to the supervisor or the City Fleet Service Center.

 

Utilizes various hand and power tools in various manual tasks as required.

 

Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including descriptions of objects, destination of debris, size and amounts of debris, communicates with customers.

 

Prepares and/or generates a variety of documents including addresses of illegal debris, reports fires and other issues, reports debris near poles, vehicle maintenance report, vehicle log book, work orders and reports debris near power lines.

 

Refers to manuals for backhoe, and other heavy equipment, department safety policy, playground safety inspection manuals, government liability exposure, vehicle manuals, safety manual, instruction manuals for tools and equipment and work zone safety course.

 

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Streets & Sanitation Manager, the Public Works Supervisor, the public, City officials, and Public Works coworkers.

 

Operates a variety of machinery and equipment to include knuckle boom trucks, backhoes, leaf trucks, front end loaders, dump trucks, garbage trucks and lawn mowers.

 

Utilizes a variety of tools and/or sets of tools to include various hand tools, power tools, hand forks, etc.

 

 

ESSENTIAL SAFETY FUNCTIONS

 

It is the responsibility of each employee to comply with established policies, procedures and safe work practices. Each employee must follow safety training and instructions provided by their supervisor. Each employee must also properly wear and maintain all personal protective equipment required for their job. Finally, each employee must immediately report any unsafe work practices or unsafe conditions as well as any on-the-job injury or illnesses.

 

 

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Performs street and road maintenance.

 

Repairs sidewalks and driveways.

 

Operates leaf machine and removes leaves from residences.

 

Operates backhoe to repair and grade roads.

 

Operates front end loader in the removal of debris.

 

Acts as back up driver for boom truck.

 

Assists co-workers with various duties as required.

 

Assists the Ground Maintenance crew as needed.

 

Performs other related duties as required.

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

 

Recommends a High School Diploma supplemented by a minimum of one to two years of experience in a job related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a CDL license.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED

TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of heavy machines and equipment. Must be able to push, lift, reach, carry, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, crouch, crawl or otherwise move objects. Work involves sitting, walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift/carry weights of up to 100 pounds.
