The City of Georgetown is now accepting applications for a Tree Trimmer in the Electric Department. This position trims trees for utility power line and right-of way clearance. Receives and responds to work order requests for tree trimming and tree removal. Meets with customers and property owners to discuss required or requested tree trimming and related work. Applies tree growth chemicals to slow the growth of trees under and adjacent to overhead utility lines. Operates bucket trucks to trim tree tops/limbs or to remove trees. Loads and transports debris from work sites to appropriate disposal facilities. Operates backhoe, bush hog, stump grinders, wood chippers, dump trucks, etc. Attends safety meetings, training, etc. as required or requested to enhance job knowledge and skill. Test and train for ACRT certification each year. Reports to the Tree Crew Leader.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Trims trees for utility power line and right-of way clearance.
Receives and responds to work order requests for tree trimming and tree removal, meets with customers and property owners to discuss required or requested tree trimming and related work.
Applies tree growth chemicals to slow the growth of trees under and adjacent to overhead utility lines.
Operates bucket trucks to trim tree tops/limbs or to remove trees.
Loads and transports debris from work sites to appropriate disposal facilities.
Directs traffic around work sites to ensure the safety of the crew members.
Operates equipment to complete other City projects as assigned which includes hanging outdoor holiday decorations, facilitating building repairs, preparing for social events, etc.
Receives and responds to public inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance.
Assists utility line crews and other utility /public safety crews as requested.
Maintains accurate and up-to-date maintenance and equipment repair records.
Cleans and maintains assigned vehicles, equipment and tools.
Works extended overtime during major power outages, hurricanes and severe weather, etc.
Performs all work in compliance with plans, specifications, codes, safety regulations, department policies and procedures.
Attends safety meetings, training, etc. as required or requested to enhance job knowledge and skill.
Test and train for ACRT certification each year.
Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including work orders, tree investigation forms, requests from City Council and service work from other departments.
Prepares and/or generates a variety of documents including completed work orders, completed tree investigation forms and completed testing forms (ACRT certification).
Refers to City tree ordinance, personnel and safety policies, equipment maintenance guides and instructions and chemical instructions.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as supervisor, tree crew members, customers, other departments and Electric Department personnel.
Operates a variety of heavy machinery to include bucket trucks, pickup trucks, dump trucks, backhoe, tractor, chain saws, etc.


ESSENTIAL SAFETY FUNCTIONS
It is the responsibility of each employee to comply with established policies, procedures and safe work practices. Each employee must follow safety training and instructions provided by their supervisor. Each employee must also properly wear and maintain all personal protective equipment required for their job. Finally, each employee must immediately report any unsafe work practices or unsafe conditions as well as any on-the-job injury or illnesses.


ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs other related duties as required.


MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a High School Diploma supplemented by a minimum of one to two years of experience in a job related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience in trimming trees and working near energized electric lines is desirable. Must possess a CDL license. Must possess a valid driver's license.


Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of heavy machines and equipment. Must be able to exert force to push, stoop, lift, pull, kneel, carry, crawl, crouch or otherwise move objects. Work involves walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift/carry weights of up to 60 pounds.
